Before joining the Bar in 2011, Taruna practiced in large-scale insolvency law with a specialist investigative litigation firm, and in constitutional law as junior counsel to the South Australian Solicitor-General.
Highlights of her practice before coming to the Bar include representing the liquidator of one of the Bell Group companies in their successful appeal in Westpac Banking Corporation v The Bell Group Ltd [2012] WASCA 157, and appearing as junior counsel in K-Generation Pty Ltd v Liquor Licensing Court (2009) 237 CLR 501, one of a series of cases concerning the scope of procedural guarantees associated with the institutional integrity of state courts.
In 2007 she completed a Master of Laws at the University of Cambridge as a Commonwealth Scholar, followed by a Pegasus Scholarship at the Inner Temple in London.
Taruna also has a particular interest in the charity sector, having spent a decade each as a director of Cambridge Australia Scholarships Ltd, and as Chair of the Refugee Advocacy Service of South Australia, a community legal service for refugees and asylum seekers. She is a former President of the Women Lawyers Association of South Australia, and the 2017 recipient of the Law Society of South Australia’s Mary Kitson Award.
Taruna accepts briefs in general civil and commercial litigation, insolvency, contract, equity, estates, public law and native title.
