Philip has over 30 years’ experience in construction law in Australia and the UK. Prior to joining the Bar in Adelaide in 2010, he was a partner of a specialist construction law firm in London which was at that time the largest specialist construction firm in the UK. He holds a Masters of Science in construction law and engineering from the Engineering faculty of the University of London, King’s College.
Throughout his period of practice in the UK he conducted numerous trials in the Technology and Construction Court and appeared as Counsel in Arbitrations and Dispute Adjudication Board hearings in Europe. In 2006 Philip opened an office for his firm in Romania, dealing with construction disputes arising out of the infrastructure development being undertaken in the former Eastern Block pre-EU accession countries. Philip has also acted as counsel in Arbitrations and Dispute Adjudication Boards in the USA and in the Middle East.
Philip also undertakes general commercial disputes relating to breach of contract, misleading and deceptive conduct and negligence (particularly in relation to professional disciplines such as engineering, architecture and project management) and corporate insolvency and bankruptcy.
During his time in professional practice, both in Australia and the UK, Philip has served in the Army Reserves as an armoured corps officer, initially in Australia with 3/9th Light Horse SAMR and in the UK with the Royal Yeomanry and was deployed with the Household Cavalry in Helmond Province, Afghanistan in 2007/2008.
