Peter obtained a Bachelor of Economics in 2000 and a First-Class Honours Degree in Law from the University of Adelaide in 2003. He was admitted to practice in September that year and joined the South Australian Bar in December 2004.
Since February 2005, Peter has been practicing as an independent Barrister from Murray Chambers, acting in a wide variety of civil matters in all jurisdictions. The bulk of his practice involves commercial litigation, property disputes, and deceased estates. He has also acted in environment and planning matters, personal injury matters, and administrative law cases. Peter has a special interest in defamation and has acted in a number of high-profile defamation cases during his time at the Bar.
Peter takes an active role supporting and encouraging the numerous law students employed by Chambers as law clerks and has done so since the program began in 2010. Keen to help develop young and eager professionals, Peter makes an important contribution to their development; guiding and mentoring them, providing them with practical academic support and resources aimed at helping them establish their competence, confidence and ultimate success within the legal profession.
Aware of the importance of new graduates starting their careers in healthy and supportive environments, where their skills will be nurtured and properly encouraged, Peter helps our law clerks identify the firms that will best suit their practice interests and personalities. He then uses his contacts within the profession to identify suitable opportunities, helps our clerks secure those opportunities and continues to encourage them as they develop into competent and capable professionals, even after they secure their dream start.
Not just a great mentor and life coach, Peter is also our resident handyman and Mr Fixit, routinely helping other members with all manner of odd jobs and sorting out all sorts of practical problems that arise with Chambers (he knows how many lawyers it takes to change a hard-to-reach light globe – him). Peter and his darling wife Diana are avid golfers – referred to as the ‘Honeymooners’ at their home club, Grange. They take every opportunity to pack up their clubs and play courses all around Australia and overseas, with India and Fiji as recent golfing highlights.
