Peter is a dual-qualified barrister practicing across both Australia and Hong Kong. His work primarily focuses on family law, including complex financial disputes and children’s matters. He regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, at both trial and appellate levels, and has appeared in the High Court in federal and migration jurisdiction matters.
Peter maintains an active Hong Kong practice where he is briefed in family cases involving international dimensions. He has sat on multiple occasions as a Deputy Judge in the Family Court of Hong Kong, presiding over contested trials involving both parenting and financial issues.
Peter’s legal career spans several decades and jurisdictions. He began in commercial litigation in Adelaide before relocating to Hong Kong in the 1990s. There, he co-founded the firm Barnes & Daly, contributing to landmark constitutional litigation during the early years of Hong Kong’s Basic Law. Since transitioning to the Hong Kong Bar in 2014, he has focused almost exclusively on family law.
Peter holds a Master of Laws (Distinction) from the University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide. He is also a CEDR-accredited mediator and brings a measured and practical approach to dispute resolution. He previously served as Chairman of the Hong Kong Family Law Association and contributed four chapters to the fourth edition of Hong Kong Family Law & Practice.
Peter accepts briefs in family matters, both in respect of child disputes and financial claims, and continues to practice between Australia and Hong Kong in his capacity as a barrister and mediator.
