Katarina was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia in 1995. She was called to the bar in 2018.
Katarina has a broad practice which includes specialization in public law and administrative law including disciplinary and migration law matters, as well as workers compensation, environmental and planning law, deceased estates, inquests and inquiries, human rights and public international law. She appears in State and Federal Courts in trials and appeals, as well as before specialist Tribunals.
Katarina was a Legal Officer in the United Nations Office of the Legal Counsel at UN headquarters in New York from 2000-2018, during which she advised on issues of public international law, including international human rights law and international humanitarian law. She advised on institutional and thematic issues as well as UN operations worldwide. In 2017 she served as the Senior Legal Officer for the UN -OPCW Joint Investigative Mechanism in respect of an international inquiry mandated by the UN Security Council into those responsible for the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Prior to joining the UN, Katarina was a Judges Associate to the Honourable Justice Nyland in the Supreme Court of South Australia, a prosecutor with the South Australian Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and a solicitor at the South Australian Crown Solicitor’s Office.
Katarina has a BA and a LLB with Honours from the University of Adelaide (1993) and a LLM with Merit from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2003).
